Although our department’s core mission is to train psychologists and community mental health counselors, we recognize it’s imperative to also prepare high-quality scholars and practitioners to be effective and inclusive leaders. Facilitating Career Development (FCD)
Our mission is to offer high quality training and professional development to community members and students in order to advance the career, college and workplace readiness of youth and adults across education, workplace, family, and community settings.

Academic Enhancement Seminars
These one-credit courses focus on developing effective coping and time management skills and improving academic and social communication.
Building Academic, Social, and Emotional Supports (BASES)
The goals of the BASES Project are to increase school-based and other educational supports for young homeless children in Madison and build the capacity of schools, teachers, and families to better meet the needs of these students.
UW Initiatives
Center for Educational Opportunity (CEO)
CEO is a student support service program that provides academic and social support to culturally diverse students and students with disabilities at UW–Madison.
PEOPLE Program
This pre-college program for low-income and diverse youth strengthens study skills and explores academic and career interests.
Advancing Health Equity and Diversity (AHEAD)
The AHEAD Research Pilot Award Program awards $10,000 grants to junior scholars to advance their health equity research.
Centro Hispano and UW–Madison School of Education Partnership
This community-university partnership trains graduate students in counseling, education, and rehabilitation psychology departments to develop multicultural competencies and bilingual fluency to provide mental health services to Spanish-speaking and Bilingual communities. Dr. Ramírez Stege, bilingual certificate training director, partners with Centro Hispano to ensure that training, service, and research are responsive to the challenges as well as strengths of local Latinx communities.
